Norlin Underground Café is located one flight
below the west entrance on the first floor west, up the hall from the circulation
desk, in S101A. It is a cooperative effort between the University
Libraries and Housing & Dining Services. Operated by Housing & Dining
Services, Norlin Underground Café features snacks, fair-trade coffee,
study materials, and a fresh look.
The coffee shop is in response to repeated requests from students for a study space with coffee service available to it. The coffee shop made its debut on April 12, 2004.
The adjacent study area is designated the Hughes Hotspot. The former Map Library site was remodeled into a
more relaxed area that permits talking and coffee drinking. Funds
from the Howard Hughes Medical Institute were used to renovate the study
room. The space features a wireless network and is also used as
an art gallery and a venue for talks and other events. A copy machine is located in the area.
