The University Libraries system on the Boulder campus is the largest library collection in the Rocky Mountain region — more than twelve million books, periodicals, government publications, audio-visual materials, microforms, maps, manuscripts, papers, and computer-based sources.
The system includes four branch libraries — Business; Earth Sciences / Map; Engineering, Mathematics & Physics; and Music.
Archives and Special Collections are housed in Norlin Library, as well as the general social sciences and humanities collection of 700,000 volumes shelved on three tiers in the third floor book stacks. Staff from the East Asian, Government Information, and Science libraries, also located in Norlin, join the staff of the Research and Instruction Department on the second floor to provide reference and research assistance. Instructional services are available from each branch and internal library. Access Services in Norlin includes the Circulation Desk, Interlibrary Loan, Course Reserves, and some audiovisual services.
The Law Library is located in, and administered by, the Law School.
The Chinook Online Catalog provides access to a vast array of research resources, the University Libraries collection, holdings of many Colorado libraries, and library systems nationwide. The Libraries website provides basic information about the Libraries, as well as many tools for conducting research.
Norlin features a wireless group study area and art gallery on the first floor southwest. Another art gallery is located on the third floor northwest.
In addition to the libraries on campus, additional materials are stored at PASCAL -- Preservation and Access Service Center for Colorado Academic Libraries. PASCAL, a state-of-the-art, high-density, library storage facility located on the Anschutz Medical Campus, houses material for the Boulder, Health Sciences, Auraria, and University of Denver libraries under environmentally-sound and climate-controlled conditions. CU faculty, staff, and students may request electronic delivery of articles in journals located in PASCAL.
Norlin Library is affiliated with the best university libraries in the country and is a member of the Colorado Alliance of Research Libraries (a cooperative of Colorado and Wyoming research libraries), the Greater Western Library Alliance (a group of 32 research libraries located in the Midwest and Western states), the Association of Research Libraries and the Center for Research Libraries.

Colorado history and politicians, 19th- and 20th-century U.S. West, organized labor, peace, citizen activism, Rocky Flats and the atomic west, women's history, environmentalism, business, and industry. Also holds the archives of the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom; Friends of the Earth; Western Federation of Miners/International Union of Mine, Mill and Smelter Workers; and the International Typographical Union. Individual collections include the papers of General William Carey Brown, Margaret Long, Gordon Allott, Josephine Roche, Omer Stewart, Edward P. Costigan, James G. Patton, Carl Johnson, Wayne Aspinall, Gary Hart, Timothy Wirth, David Skaggs, Patricia Schroeder, Ken Salazar, Stan Brakhage and David Hawkins.

Of national and international renown, the Government Information website includes thousands of links to government information on all levels arranged by subject. 5+ million items in paper, microform, video and electronic format /10,000+ subscriptions. A regional library of the Federal Depository Library Program as well as a depository of Colorado state, United Nations, and European Union information. Also collects publications from all other state governments, many foreign governments, and international governmental organizations like the UN. Most of the collection is uncataloged and cannot be accessed using Chinook. Users can search Chinook to find federal documents published since 1976; foreign, state and international documents published since 1989; and a limited number of older publications. The Library has numerous printed indexes and CD-ROM databases that can be used to identify older documents. Papyrus documents, medieval manuscript leaves, incunabula, English and American literature from the eighteenth century to the present, illustrated books, natural history, mountaineering, the Epsteen and Bloch collections of children's literature, the Leo Miller John Milton Collection, original photographs by renowned photographers, the Tippit photobook collection, papers of Colorado authors, material on the history of the book and the book arts, and a large collection of fine-press books. Many materials housed in Special Collections do not have online records in Chinook. Access to materials not found in Chinook is provided on the Department web pages and in the card catalog and finding guides kept in the department's reading room.

Collections include study and research materials for management and administration, accounting, advertising, banking, finance, small business and entrepreneurship, marketing, real estate and transportation, and some works in the behavioral sciences, quantitative methodology, and computer applications. Corporate annual shareholder reports for all companies on the New York and American Stock Exchanges and SEC 10-K reports for Colorado and Fortune 500 companies from 1980 to 1994 available on microfiche. Lexis Nexis Academic includes annual shareholder and 10-K reports and proxy statements for all companies on primary U.S. exchanges from 1994 to present.

One of the largest and most important music research collections between Chicago and Los Angeles, covering music history, music theory, music education, musicians, jazz, popular music, and many other topics related to music. Home to the American Music Research Center (AMRC) with extensive holdings of primary sources related to 18th- and 19th-century American church music, American sheet music, an archive devoted to Glenn Miller, and a number of other special collections. More than 900 digitized titles from its sheet music collections as the University of Colorado Digital Sheet Music Collection.
