Suggestions for Searching

• Use the map search if you want to browse the collection by Colorado counties.


• Use the keyword search to search for aerial photographs that cover a particular topographic quadrangle or landmark in Colorado.


• If you do not get the results you want, try a broader search or one of the options suggested by the system when the search result is zero.


• Use the keyword search to browse the entire collection. Do not select any keywords and leave the date range at its default setting. Click Search.

The map search allows you to find photographs using a map to select the area you are interested in. The photographs are organized by county and date. The first step is to select a date from the dropdown list to the left of the map. The counties in which there are photographs for that year will be highlighted. You can then click on a county name and you will be taken to an enlarged map of that county. Lines drawn on the map show the places where photographs were taken. Clicking on one of the highlighted lines will pull up thumbnails for all of the photographs in that flightline.

The geographic keyword search allows you to search some of the attributes we've associated with each aerial photograph. You can select a landmark, county, or topographic quadrangle to search by and you can limit your search by date. If you do not get any results, try a broader search. (For example, choose only a landmark-not a date.) The system will also give you hyperlinked suggestions to broader searches you might want to try.

Both the map and the geographic keyword search will lead you to a page that displays thumbnail images of the aerial photographs along with the identifier, location, and date of the photograph. Click on the thumbnail to display a larger image of the photograph and much more information about that photograph, including the latitude and longitude of the center point of the photograph, the landmark the photograph covers (if any), topographic quadrangles it falls within, and scale.

Technical Recommendations

This website is graphic-intensive and employs stylesheets, javascript and frames. We suggest using Internet Explorer 5.5 + or Netscape 7. Set your screen resolution to 1024 x 768.

Downloading and Printing

To download the image of an aerial photograph:

• On a PC, right click on the image and select “Save Picture As” from the menu.
• On a Mac, hold down the control key and click. Select “Download Image to Disk” from the menu.

This site uses frames to display an aerial photograph and its attributes on the same page.

To print an individual frame:

PC	Mac
Click inside the frame. Select “print” from the menu. --OR-- Click inside the frame you want to print. Click on “print” in the file menu. Select the radio button beside “only the selected frame”. (under the options tab in Explorer) Click “print” button.	Click inside the frame. Select “print” from the menu.

To print all frames as displayed:

PC	Mac
Click inside the frame you want to print. Select“print” in the file menu. Select the radio button beside “as laid out on screen”. Click “print” button.	Click inside the address bar. Select“print” from the file menu.
