Earth Sciences and Map Library
The Earth Sciences Library collects material in geology, mineralogy, paleontology, oceanography, physical geography, mineral deposits, and environmental aspects of geology and geography.
We are one of five external branches of the University Libraries and are located in the Benson Earth Sciences building on the southwest side of the first floor. Have a look at The Arrow of Time on the southwest building exterior while you're here.
The Map Library is located on the lower level of the Jerry Crail Johnson Earth Sciences and Map Library.
Reserves
Instructors may put reading material on reserve in the Earth Sciences Library for their classes. Check-out periods vary from two-hour reserve to three-day reserve. Lists of material on reserve can be accessed on Chinook under instructor's name or class number. To place materials on reserve, print and fill out the Earth Sciences Reserves form here.

If you are teaching a class this semester and will be using one of the Library’s many e-books, please let us know. E-books have a restriction on the number of users that can view the book at one time. This limit can be increased for class usage if you let us know about it. Please contact:

Laptops
We have nine laptops available for check out at our front desk. They come fully loaded with great software such as Microsoft Office and the Adobe Creative Suite. Laptops may be checked out by CU students, faculty and staff. They can be out for two hours at a time. Late fines do apply. Please click here for more info and to see what's available.
Journals
The library subscribes to about 350 journals covering earth science related subject areas. In many cases we are subscribing to the journals full-text, online only. Only University of Colorado, Boulder faculty, staff, and students can view these files remotely. Other users must view them in the University Libraries.

Copying and Scanning services
A color photocopier and scanner is available downstairs. It will accept BuffOne Cards and Campus Cash cards. For more information, please click here.
Printing
The Earth Sciences and Map Library has a print release station upstairs and a color printer/copier downstairs. Printing from Library computers requires a Campus Cash card. Students, Faculty, and Staff may use their Buff Cards. For more information, please click here.
Special subject index databases are available via Chinook. Access requires a UCB campus IP address.
Parking
Parking is available at meters in a lot to the east of Benson Earth Sciences. The meters take dollar coins and quarters and credit cards. The Library does not have change. The parking lot on the West side of Benson is available for public parking after 5pm. A paid parking slip is required from the vending machine in the lot. It accepts credit cards. Parking is also available in the Euclid Parking Garage, adjacent to the UMC.
