Pre-Conference Abstracts
Census Workshop
The Census Workshop will be facilitated by Jerry O'Donnell, Chief Public Information Officer for the U.S. Census Bureau in Denver. Among the topics covered will be:
- Recent enhancements to American FactFinder (AFF) including custom tables (a new feature added as a result of input from the docs community),
improved mapping tools, new American Community Survey data now available in AFF, "building queries" function with Economic Census data, and much more.
- Update to the American Community Survey (ACS-the future of census data). Learn about new ranking tables and see a preview of the new 2005 data
release coming out this summer. ACS covers the same subject matter as Census 2000 but it provides data yearly rather than once every 10 years.
- See the new Local Employment Dynamics data tool showing quarterly workforce indicators. This is a joint Census/BLS endeavor. Stay current with
the latest data products and data developments from census.gov.
Jerry O'Donnell is the Chief Public Information Officer for the U.S. Census Bureau in Denver, Colorado. He is a graduate of Utah State University where
he majored in psychology and demography. He has authored a number of census publications including the Census Users' Guide and has prepared many
articles on the use of census data for such publications as American Demographics, Chamber of Commerce Research Book, and the U.S. Industrial
Outlook. Mr. O'Donnell is also a member of the American Marketing Association and the American Planning Association speakers' bureaus. He is
