GPO Appropriations Cuts The Senate committee added money to the appropriations bill. 4% added to GPO ’s request. We still need to communicate with our reps. Larry Romans has sent out a sample letter on govdoc-l. 6. Tangible products vs. electronic only Tim discussed the trend to favor electronic only products instead of tangible products for depositories. 7. Library Significant Events Chris Brown (DU): new govdocs Web site coming soon with 600 Web pages Gary Morrell (Rocky Flats): inventory, cataloging Yolanda Maloney (CU Boulder Engineering): serials cancellation Diane Koshak (Adams State): passed out brochures about Alamosa Rob Jackson (DPL): drop-off in people coming in; fewer reference Qs; solution: offer programs that have nothing to do with the library Leanne Walther (CU Boulder): Council of Europe depository; cataloging lots of treaties; CU is the only official depository of Council of Europe docs Carol Perkins (DU Law): Law school moving in several years to DU’s University Park campus Katherine Powell (UW): name for new OPAC: Ferret, to go live on July 5; 8 applicants for head of documents dept. Fred Schmidt (CSU): Reference usage also declining; Information Commons: merging electronic information center with reference; Reference people provide instruction in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; university is turning more and more to library to provide instruction. Monica Davis (CC): still working on library degree; downloading retrospective records from Marcive Julie Jones-Eddy (CC): No students to work; she may be processing docs this summer; new science librarian; systems person just quit Louise Treff-Gangler (Auraria): Marcive cleanup; statistics also down; possibly building a computer lab in library over summer Sharon Partridge (Jeffco): New govdocs page on Web site; tax forms bring people in Susan Simmons (Broomfield): Docs position open
