To date, the database is complete back to 1930. 6. Federal Data Quality Act http://sunsite.berkeley.edu/GODORT/legislation/#quality This act allows for the validity of data posted on the Internet by Federal Agencies to be challenged by any persons. Once questioned, the data must be defended. In addition, Agencies must create guidelines for their data. This act may have a tremendous impact on the availability of Federal information. There are concerns that if a proposed rule affects an industry in a way the industry does not like (i.e. makes the industry spend money cleaning up pollution), the guidelines from the Federal Data Quality Act are a respectable way to challenge the rule. The affected industry can challenge the quality of the data supporting the rule and drag out for months or years the adoption of the final regulations. 7. Fugitive Documents Project Susan Simmons is spearheading a project for to seek out and locate fugitive documents. Anyone who is interested can sign on to search a specific Federal Agency's web page for publications dealing with Colorado or Wyoming. These items should be forwarded to Susan who will serve as the liaison to GPO. Chris Brown offered to create a web form template. In addition, Tim Byrne asked that we forward him an electronic copy of title; he will save them on a server for future access. 8. Ask an Expert http://ucblibraries.colorado.edu/govpubs/experts.htm Susan Xue has created a page of online links at various federal agencies that we can use to ask questions to experts regarding reference questions on a variety of topics. Ask Dr. Climate Change is a favorite. 9. Deselecting Depository Items - Deselection of depository items can be done at any time during the year. - If you need to slash your % of items selected review Tom Taylor's list of items that are not very active "Item Numbers Distributed on Shipping Lists 1996-1998: Arranged by number of pieces distributed" http://www.du.edu/bdld/smbyno.htm#gtr00 - Discussion of the Document Expedition Project (DocEx), a program through LC, Gifts & Exchange, to aid in the acquisition of federal publications. You can subscribe and get all sorts of materials and you can select areas of interest. - Discussion of what to do about broken links in public catalogs. Don't be fooled by GPO's stating "no longer available" for electronic items. One suggestion was to suppress the 856 field. Another was to add a note stating "Doesn't work" with the date. 10. United States Commission on International Religious Freedom http://www.uscirf.gov FYI of site containing full text of their publications. Latest report is on Afghanistan.
