Minutes: Government Publications Interest Group Friday, March 8, 2002 Meeting at Colorado State Archives, Denver Present: Tim Byrne (CU Boulder); Chris Brown (University of Denver), recorder; Susan Simmons (Broomfield ); Louise Treff-Gangler (Auraria); Leanne Walther (CU Boulder); Gary Morell (Front Range CC); Shelly Drumm (CU Boulder); Laura Harris (Colo. Supreme Court Library); Rob Jackson (DPL); Carol Perkins (DU Law); Lisa Nickum (Mines); George Orlowsky (Sr. Archivist, State of Colo.); Terry Kettleson (Archivist, State of Colo.) 1. Tour of Colo. State Archives by George Orlowsky and Terry Kettleson. Tour included various levels of the archives and the reference area. Reference area contains recordings of public hearings concerning state legislation (6 formats of tapes!). Discussed services provided and service charges for some services. Afterwards we discussed archiving of State Web pages. The State Archives manages about 60% of State Web site. Some agencies (CDE, Health, CBI, Universities) have their own servers. 65% of the records retained by the Archives are court related. 2. Colorado Association of Libraries. Susan Simmons reported on the Government Documents Interest Group (as it is now called in the newly-formed CAL). 3. USGS CD: Tim told us the Mainichi Shimbun (Japanese newspaper) had interviewed him about the destruction of the CD. Tim will be featured in the paper. Watch your Tokyo newsstands! 4. Library significant events. Broomfield Public (Susan): adjusting to new library DU (Chris): putting URLs in topo maps; retro serials cataloging is progressing Mines (Lisa): working on a technical reports Web page Auraria (Louise): Media Center is being transferred to Auraria Higher Education Center, eliminating 11 out of 27 jobs. Colo. Supreme Court Library (Laura): Laura is new at the library (3 months). She does serials control, accounts management, and eventually government documents.
