Meeting Place: Denver Center, National Park Service ANNOUNCEMENTS: 1. Louise Stwalley has changed her name back to Treff. 2. Fred Schmidt has had problems with EMail addresses. Have some changed? Louise has problems with hers. Tim has two addresses, either should work. COGOPUB-L will be moving to a new server - may change some addresses. Tim will keep up with the problems. 3. Mark Anderson will be the new Docs. Librarian at UNC July 1st. 4. Next meeting place will be Colorado College, Tutt Library, April 29, 10:30 - 1pm. Meet in the library and we will decide how to proceed. You may have trouble finding parking. On the street or side streets north of the library may be easiest. Park in any lot you find space. We can "fix" the ticket if you get one. 5. CARL update. Will have Marcive produced profile tapes for records from each library. Target date is fall. Marcive database on CARL is #99. 6. CLA spring meeting - May 13, 10am to 3pm. Library Computer Lab - 40 computers with room monitor. Fred will demo their GIS cartographic products. Hands on opportunities. 7. The ALA handout floppy is for sale at ALA for $6.00. Can also order directly from Larry Romans/Vanderbilt Univ. Send in your handouts to be added to the collection. Maybe these could be available via Internet? If you contribute you get a free disk. 8. Tim will send those who want one a disk with Extract 1.5 and the Landview demo on it. 9. Pikes Peak Library District has Colorado legislative files on their system. The Colorado Legislative Almanac 1993 is available. This publication has been unavailable since 1985. Colo. Rev. Stats. will again be available on CD. Vendors are Capital Connection (user friendly) and West Publishing. 10. CARL Resource Sharing Proposal: Gateways to GPO and Fedworld Databases Resource sharing of document collections (microfiche)Need good document delivery. Fred. S. - CSU is looking at sharing some of their large microfiche collections. Collections should be placed in locations where fast copying and delivery is possible. High use library might be the archival copy site for particular pubs. Interest in d igitalizing/scanning microfiche docs so they can be disseminated electronically. DOE might do this and make available FTP. CARL's Gov. Pubs. Group will end in June. There is concern about what happens after that. 11. NTIA grant: Should we write a grant to provide equipment for everyone and get Internet connections for all federal and state depositories? Deadline is May 27. Need to read the document and think about ideas. Might connect somehow to ACLIN. We could pass this opportunity on to public libraries and systems. LIBRARY SIGNIFICANT EVENTS: Aurora Public - LAN system. Business CDs. Investigating Internet. UNC - Interviewing candidates for a new position. Mary Linscomb is moving to Archives. UCCS - Just trying to stay out of the news. Major cut in journal collection. CC - Loaded El Paso Co. with Landview. Thinking about loading Tiger Landview maps for some Colorado counties on a CD. Regis - 26 positions on University Administration cut. No positions lost from the library, although collection development may suffer. CSU - Doing an indepth study of Government Docs along with all other library depts. Looking at all technical services processing to decide if retaining the current system or mainstreaming tech. processing is more efficient. Also rethinking reference services. Are considered a tiered reference system (Info Desk - Docs. referral - In depth by appointment. State Library - We will soon see media ads about ACLIN. The legislative database is available through Pikes Peak LD. DPL - Will be closed for a period of time to move to new building. Auraria - Centralized reference area developing. Evelyn Yang is the new document delivery librarian. CU - Gov. Docs. is undergoing study for employee risk management. Back problems of most of staff finally triggered this. Walking on the tile floor is most likely the culprit. The people studying staff work requirements are surprised at the demands of the job (people who work in libraries spend most of their time sitting around reading books - right??) TOUR OF NATIONAL PARK SERVICE LIBRARIES The group then toured the National Park Service Center Library. It serves all of the U.S. for park construction. They have all of the construction plans, photographs, as well as non-GPO pubs. They are very service oriented and will be glad to help the public with questions. Librarians can call for help as well. CU Boulder has an index and full set of National Park Service microfiche. If you would like copies of particular park fiche let Tim know which ones and he will send you those.
