The Library will be greatly enlarged in the future and the Government Documents reference desk will be moved into a central reference area or "cluster" for referrals from a central information desk. The documents technical services will be "mainstreamed" as "subunits" into the appropriate unit (i.e. serials, database maintenance, etc.) Center for British Studies: The history of this center at CU- Boulder was discussed. This Center has become one of the foremost centers of its kind in the western U.S., with original historical records for both Essex and Hereford counties in microfilm format. CARL Report: A. Integration Task Force: On-going records are now going into the Marcive database, however some records have been found in database #83 which are not in #99. If you find evidence of this, please send a print-out to Louise so that the problem can be solved. CU- Auraria has begun their profiling process by sending their GPO processing profile to Marcive. B. Resource Sharing Plan: The Denver Public Library has decided not to purchase a fiche-to-fiche copier. A discussion ensued about exactly what is expected in this CARL Resource Sharing Plan. Fred stated that he thinks technology will outpace these efforts. Office of Business Analysis Symposium: There will be a two day seminar at the Clarion Harvest House Hotel in Boulder, August 23-24, 1994, presented by the Department of Commerce and geared towards the information needs and technologies of small businesses in the area. A number of people expressed interest and offered to begin assembling their own lists. Job for student assistant: The Government Publications Library at the University of Colorado at Boulder has employed Craig Smith for the past few years, first as a student assistant, and presently as a temporary staff member. Craig has now graduated from college and is looking for permanent employment. He comes highly recommended as a dependable, responsible employee with extensive documents reference experience and an increasing comfort level with computer technology. New Business: CSU and CU-Denver have now begun their WAIS access to the Federal Register and the Congressional Record. DPL and CU-Boulder are still working on equipment upgrades before they can begin using WAIS. Library Significant Events: Tim described his experience of the recent Census Department workshop on Native American statistical data. He warned that these workshops are very much geared toward the general public, not documents specialists, but still found the workshop worth while. The subject reports on Native Americans should be coming out soon on both CD-ROM and paper. q m
