Minutes of Sept. 12th GOPIG Meeting Lakes Library, School of Mines, Golder, CO In attendence: Karen Mydland, Wyoming State Library; Barb Tillman, DU Law; Rob Jackson, Denver Public; Fred Schmidt, CSU; Marit MacArthur, Auraria; Tim Byrne, CU; Lisa Stomberg, Mines; Sharon Johnson, Air force Acad.; Louise Treff-Gangler, Auraria; Allison Cowjill, DU; Paula LaFrenierre, Aurora and Mark Anderson, UNC. The next meeting will be at the Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs in November. The precise date will be announced later. Sharon modelled the Depository logo T-shirts that she and her staff designed. It has been suggested that more be printed up and they be made available to anyone interested. Ordering information will appear on cogopub in the near future. Tim announced the resignation of Judy Russell at GPO. Watch govdoc-l and the Admin Notes for more details. Not being preceded by a survey, the arrival of the U.S. Patent CD-ROM collection was something of a surprise to everyone. Rod Jackson has tried using them and reports that the graphics are bad, prinouts take a long time, and the index necessary to identify patents must be purchased separately. Libraries not interested in retaining these may return the box unopened without a postage charge, and send in a green deselection card. The DOE microfiche program is being phased out. In the future, GPO will receive them in an electronic format. A decision about how best to distribute them will be made by Oct. 1. Tim made a general pitch for Colorado by the Numbers. New files are being added all the time. Periodically, he checks to see who's linking to it. Re: Marcive - Louise reports that the call number browsing function has been restored to database 83. A discount to CARL libraries for the Shipping List Service is not likely, but the Shipping List records appearing in database 83 should be pursued. GPO doesn't know where to put URL's in their MARC records, but they're putting them in just the same. The CU/CSU/DPL retrocon project (to create a database of pre-1976 records) is on hold. There is not as much money available in the first year as thought and so we will try again next year.. Re: GPO inspections. Tim would like to conduct a workshop for librarians facing their first inspections. Details will appear on cogopub-l. In the meantime, make sure the Depository logo is on the front entrance to your library, and do the self-study. We ought to be the last group of libraries inspected under the old system, and we're all darn proud to be part of history in that way. ------ Forwarded message ends here ------ Mark Anderson Government Publications James A.
