GOPIG MEETING May 7th, 1998 10:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Aurora Public Library Present: Marit MacArthur, Greg Mickels, Tim Byrne, Gary Morell, Yolanda Maloney, Dallas Marshall, Fred Schmidt, Sarah Landeryou, Sharon Partridge, Rob Jackson Since the STAT-USA presentation will be May 29th, there won't be another GOPIG meeting until the one in Greeley that will coincide with Bronco's Training camp, tentatively scheduled for July 23rd ter changed to July 29th when we found out that the Bronco's would not arrive in Greeley until July 24th. The people who attended the Depository Library Conference in April updated the group. Title 44 revisions will be introduced into Congress sometime this summer. (update: a bill has been introduced, S. 2288, the Wendell H. Ford Government Publications Reform Act of 1998, which is currtly in the Senate Rules Committee). Service Guidelines for Electronic Information were finalized. Biennial Survey raw data will be available on the Federal Bulletin Board. The ERIC digital project should be available on the web sometime this summer. This will be a full-text database of federal documents that are included in ERIC. There were presentations about what some libraries are doing with commercial GIS software. There was also a presentation of LANDVIEW III - which has many features of GIS packages, but not as powerful. The American Community Survey should be appearing this summer. The GPO sales program is solvent again. If you're going to use email to contact your Congressional reps, (perhaps to lobby the Senate Rules Committee on s. 2288) don't get involved in mass mailing lobbying schemes. Use your own account, identify yourself and give your address. CRS Reports are available on the Internet, but only for Congress-people. Retrospective Cataloging of federal Documents Survey - ALA - GODORT is surveying depositories to find out what pre-76 records exist and who would like to be involved in a retrospective cataloging project. The Alliance is undertaking a retrospective cataloging project for Colorado Documents. The person, in Tim's office, who handles discard lists is in the hospital. So don't be surprised if your list doesn't appear for awhile Significant events: DPL has started charging for printing off the Internet and printing has gone dropped by about 90%.
