State Lib.), Sharon Partridge (JCPL), Elfriede Joff (USFA), Monica Davis (CC), Julie Jones-Eddy (CC), Sharon Johnson (USFA), Sandra Kelly (USFA), Fred Schmidt (CSU), Martha Jo Sani (CU), Mark Anderson (UNC), Greg Mickells (Aurora PL), Rob Jackson (DPL), Tim Byrne (CU), Louise Treff-Gangler (Auraria), Rob Richards (CU-Law), Dallas Marshall (CU-Law) 1. Announcements Meeting at DU on copyright and the Internet on Oct. 23 Auraria Tech I vacancy - database work and public service required Greg Mickells is moving to Castle Rock as to a Branch Manager position. This was his last GoPig meeting. Jan Jorgensen is leaving UW for a position in Washington state. Sara L. has left DU and moved to Auraria. 2. Minutes were approved. 3. Next meeting: Auraria, Friday November 13 (10-1) 4. Title 44 Revisions S2288 was reported out of committee, but many thought it was a long shot for it to be passed by both houses. 5. NAICS Cloth Bound Copies Libraries should receive two copies of NAICS. The second copy is coming from NTIS. 6. Starr Report Libraries reported very little interest in the Starr Report. 7. CLA GODORT Conference Program The CLA program is on October 18. Chris Thiry is planning to talk about map collections. CIS will pay for the reception at the CLA GODORT Business meeting. 8. Colorado Document Cataloging Records A public file for the Colorado document cataloging records is available at the Alliance website. There is one file with all records to March 31, 1998 and files will be available on a monthly basis after that time. This free file is available via an open ftp session. There was some concern about the fields where the call number (CODOCS number) appears. Both the 086 and 098 fields are registered with OCLC. Some of these records use 086 while others use 098. CU experience problems loading this file into their database because of this call number issue. 9. Unfinished business Fred Schmidt reported that CU and CSU are working on examining the CIS hearings tape. This contains hearings from 1883-1969. The Alliance will be loading them into database #83 on CARL. CU, CSU, and Wyoming will be loading these records into their databases. Perhaps there could be a consortial purchase of the hearing tapes from 1970-1976. The Alliance is continuing to negotiate the price for Statistical Universe. They are negotiating for the basic federal collection (ASI) with some WWW links. The state and local documents and the international documents available through Statistical Universe will not be included in these negotiations. Sharon Partridge indicated she is noticing 20-30% of the MARCIVE records not overlaying. There was discussion about libraries' problems with the MARCIVE records, but a solution was not reached other that problems should be reported back to MARCIVE, Inc. 10. New Business The Wyoming GPO inspections happened during the fall and all libraries "passed with flying colors" according to Tim Byrne. Otero Junior College in La Juanta has dropped its depository status. Tim Byrne has talked to the Patent and Trademark Office to get a Patent and Trademark workshop here in the metro area. 11. Library Significant Events DPL is a full subscriber to Info USA (this is the Internet version of American Business Disk on CD-ROM). They are having problems with downloading from this site. DPL is implementing a Microsoft NT network. Aurora is in the final stages of negotiations with III. Library Journal has selected 2 websites created by librarians at Aurora. See the Sept. 25 issue for more information. Within the next 3 years, the UNC Library will have control over the areas in the library that have been used for other non-library purposes. There are currently proposals for a centralized map collection and a mini law library for Weld county attorneys. CU-Business has been working on a menu for local electronic resources. It is only available in the library. Many items from library have been placed in storage. CSU has started to offer "pay for printing" and reported it to be a good experience. There is not a lot of impact on staff. They are working with the vendor UniPrint and have set up a card system. Fred also reported that CSU is approximately 2/3 through the retrospective cataloging of the general EPA documents. He also predicted that within two months CSU hopes to catalog all those items not on a shelf list. Air Force is starting with the MARCIVE services. Colorado College is getting the corrections records from MARCIVE. They are also working on retrospective cataloging for older USGS material. Jefferson County PL improved its military history section by selecting many publications from Oxidental who gave up its depository status. The Wyoming Supreme Court and the Wyoming State Library are sharing a building and there is not enough room for both. Both are also suffering from poor wiring in the building. The State Library is also working with the MARCIVE records loaded into their database a couple of years ago. There is a possibility of a new Broomfield PL if Broomfield becomes its own county and city. Rob Richards reported that he has submitted proposals for presentations at the AALL and FDLP conferences. CU-Law is continuing with the Colorado state documents project where they are contacting each agency individually. Auraria is continuing with database cleanup and still have not loaded the retrospective MARCIVE records. Auraria is also receiving the corrected MARCIVE records. CSM is continuing to undergo remodeling of its HVAC system. There is a possibility that the MARCIVE records will be loaded this fall. CU is planning a long-term item conversion project. The Government Publications section is also redesigning its reference desk. Finally, Debbie Hollis and Peggy Jobe are teaching an electronic resources class for journalism students. It might become a required class with many sections. Respectfully submitted, ******************************************************************* Lisa S. Nickum Ph.
