Introduction
The following is a list of available electronic resources for the British collections. Included in this list are searchable databases. Not listed are electronic copies of individual journals; please consult Chinook online catalog for access to journals. Some titles are only available through suscription. These titles must be accessed from the CU system network. Users can connect to the subscription by either accessing the site through a computer on campus (particularly from the libraries) or by dialing into the system from offsite. - Annual Bibliography of English Language and Literature (ABELL).
- Contains over 783,000 records covering English-language monographs, periodical articles, critical editions of literary works, book
reviews, collections of essays and doctoral dissertations published anywhere in
the world from 1920 onwards. All aspects and periods of English literature are covered, from Anglo-Saxon times to the
present day. British, American, and Commonwealth writing are all represented. Coverage: 1920 - present. Also available in print: Z2011.M69.

- Bibliography of British and Irish History Online, Royal Historical Society.
- The Royal Historical Society bibliography, which is hosted by the Institute of Historical Research, is a guide to writing on British and Irish
history from the Roman period to the present day. Database contains 300,000 records on British
and Irish history, including relations with the empire and Commonwealth. Bibliography includes books, articles in
journals and collected volumes, and review articles, incorporating the content
of the print annual bibliographies for 1993-200; with updates to follow. The online edition also included some earlier
publications not included in the print and CD-ROM editions, with near-comprehensive coverage of works published since 1900 and select earlier works.

- Britain: An Official Handbook, by the Central Office of Information.
- Published 1949/50-1998 as “An Official Handbook” and since 1999 as "The Official Yearbook of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern
Ireland." The difinitive overview of the United Kingdom in text, tables, charts, maps and colour photographs.
- Print and online access
- British and Irish Archaeological Bibliography (BIAB).
- Provides information about articles and books on the archaeology of Britain and Ireland, including records from earlier bibliographies,
containing records from as far back as 1695 A.D. This data has been digitized and imported into a relational database structure with nearly 200,000 references. Also available in print: Z2027.A8 B73 (1997-2004).

- British History Online.
- A digital library of text and information about people, places and
businesses from the medieval and early modern period, built by the Institute of
Historical Research and the History of Parliament Trust.

- British Library: Integrated Catalogue.
- Free online access to the integrated catalogue of the British Library. This catalogue unites a number
of previously separate sources to list over twelve million items in the British Library’s outstanding collections.

- The British Year Book of International Law.
- Published by the Oxford University Press, 1921- (Suspended 1940-1943). Produced by the British
Royal Institute of International Affairs. Also available in print: JX21 B7 (1960, 1993).

- Cambridge Journals Online.
- Presents information about electronic journals that are published by Cambridge
University Press. Lists current titles that are available. States that only
subscribers have access to the full text of articles. Can also be accessed through individual
journal titles.

- Defining Gender: 1450-1910
- Searchable digital collection under development by Adam Matthew Publications, covering advice literature to women, 1450 to 1910. This new online project "brings together
approximately 50,000 images of original manuscript and printed material, including a strong core of documents from the Bodleian Library, Oxford. Ephemeral material such as ballads, cartoons
and pamphlets are featured alongside diaries, advice literature, medical journals, conduct books and periodicals."

Family; section 3: Consumption and Leisure; section 4: Education and
Sensibility; section 5: the Body.

- Early English Books Online (EEBO).
- Includes the complete page images of 96,000 volumes in all subject areas published in
Great Britain or in the English language between 1475 and 1700, and represented in the English Short Title Catalog and Thomason Tracts.

- Early English Books Online: Text Creation Partnership (EEBO TCP)
- Subset of Early English Books Online. Currently includes searchable full text
of 1,500 titles chosen from the New Cambridge Bibliography of English Literature. 200 tiles are added monthly. When complete, EEBO-TCP will contain 25,000 texts.

- Empire Online.
- This database is being published in five sections between 2003 and 2007 offering
approximately 60,000 images of original documents linked to essays by leading
scholars in the field of Empire Studies. The sections cover Cultural Contacts,
1492-1969 (2003); Empire Writing and the Literature of Empire (2003/4); The
Visible Empire (2004/5); Religion and Empire (2005/6); and Race, Class and
Colonialism, c1783-1969 (2006/7). The images will be sourced from about ten
different libraries and archives around the world, including a strong core of
document images from the British Library, including the Oriental and India
Office Collections at the British Library; the University of Birmingham
Library; the Bodleian Library, Oxford; and the Public Record Office and the
State Records, New South Wales, Australia.

- English Literary Periodicals (ELP): 1681-1941, Index to.
- The English Literary Periodicals series consists of 233 titles published during the
seventeenth, eighteenth and nineteenth centuries in England. While primarily literary in focus, these periodicals deal with a wide variety of subjects and
thus offer the historian or scholar valuable resource material not only in the area of literature, but on such topics as theater, art, music, history,
politics, sociology, philosophy, economics, religion and science. Of special interest is the English slant on life in America and particularly the American
Revolution.

- English Short Title Catalogue (ESTC).
- Comprehensive bibliographic and holdings information for works printed in any language in England or its dependencies from the beginnings of
print to 1800, including all items from Pollard & Redgrave, Wing, and the
Thomason Tracts plus works more recently discovered. ESTC contains records for the items of all
types published in Great Britain or its colonies or in English from 1473-1800.

- Cites essays and articles contained in collections of essays and miscellaneous
works published in the United States, Great Britain, and Canada. Also available in print: AI3. E752.

- EuroDocs: Primary Historical Documents from Western Europe
- Links to select primary source documents (transcribed, reproduced in facsimile,
or translated) arranged chronologically by country. Includes links to a citation guide and to the Western European Specialists Section of
the Association of College and Research Libraries (ACRL).

- International Medieval Bibliography Online.
- Indexes articles on medieval subjects in journals, Festschriften, conference proceedings, and collected essays. Covers all aspects of medieval studies within the period 400 to 1500 for Europe, the Middle East and North Africa. Citations classified by date, subject and location. Icludes IMB English-Online, which contains bibliographic data only for articles written in English. Citations in mutiliple langauges.

- Bibliography of interdisciplinary literature pertaining to the
Middle Ages and Renaissance (400-1700).

- Interdisciplinary database that contains the full text of top news, general news topics, company news, industry
& market news, legal news, company financial information, country profiles, state profiles, biographical information, reference & directories, general

legal research. Previously published by Congressional Information Service (CIS).

The service allows users to search summaries of statistical publications, then link to the full-text of selected publications on Statistical Universe and

- An illustrated collection of 50,000 biographies of the men and women who shaped all aspects of Britain's past, from the fourth century BC to
the year 2000. Rev. ed. of: Dictionary of national biography, 1885-1901. Published in association with the British Academy.

- Oxford English Dictionary.
- The most comprehensive English language dictionary, the OED Online contains the complete text of the 20-volume Second Edition of the Oxford
English Dictionary, first published in 1989, together with its 3-volume
Additions Series, published in 1993 (volumes 1 and 2) and 1997 (volume 3). It is updated quarterly with the goal of
presenting a completely new third edition by 2010.

- The Proceedings of the Old Bailey, London 1674 to 1834.
- A fully searchable online edition of the largest body of texts detailing the lives of over 100,000 criminal trials held at London’s central
criminal court. Now contains 45,000 trials from December 1714 to December 1799. Project directors: Tim Hitchcock and Robert Shoemaker and published by
the Humanities Research Institute, University of Sheffield and the Higher Education Digitization Service, University of Hertfordshire.

- Philosophical transactions, giving some account of the present undertakings, studies, and
labours of the ingenious, in many considerable parts of the world 1665-1775. Split into series A: physical
science and engineering and Philosophical Transactions and series B: Biological sciences. Also available in print: Pascal Offsite Q41. L8 (1829-1886) and Special
Collections Q41. L8 (1665-1828).

- Scottish Women Poets of the Romantic Period.
- Full-scale electronic critical archive-anthology, contains 60 full-text volumes of
Scottish Romantic poetry from the 19th and 20th centuries, extensive contemporary critical essays, as well as material especially written for this
database by leading scholars and links to related web sites. Site includes in-depth browsing and searching capabilities.

- The Times Digital Archive 1785-1985.
- The complete digital edition of The Times (London) for the entire period of 1785-1985 has 7,683,312 articles. Full facsimile images of either a specific article or a complete page are available. The entire newspaper is captured, with all articles, advertisements and illustrations/photos divided into categories to facilitate searching.

- World Shakespeare Bibliography.
- Provides annotated entries for all-important books, articles, book reviews, dissertations, theatrical productions, reviews of productions,
audiovisual materials, electronic media, and other scholarly and popular materials related to Shakespeare. Coverage: 1971 - present.
