International Organization Information
- International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies offers World Disasters Report 1995-present which include statistics on refugees by country of origin, internally displaced persons, and intensity of conflict by year and region and more.
- ReliefWeb a rich collection of statistics, background information, maps, and situation reports on natural and political disasters. A project of the United Nations Department of Humanitarian Affairs.
- UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) includes background reports and statistics. The RefWorld CD-ROMS containing information on conflicts, refugees, including current country reports, legal and policy-related documents and literature references are available on the computers in the Government Information Library.
Nongovernmental Sources
- Center for International Disaster Information (CIDI) Situation Reports include information about both political crises and natural disasters.
- Facts on International Relations and Security Trends (FIRST)--a joint project of the International Relations and Security Network (ISN) and the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI). The site provides country level data and information on membership in international organizations and participation in international conventions, conflict and peacekeeping activities, arms production and trade, military expenditures, weapons of mass destruction, armed forces and conventional weapons, political systems, and country profiles. Although the site indicates that it includes information from 1988 to the present, not all data series are available for all countries for all years.
- INCORE (Initiative on Conflict Resolution and Ethnicity) --established "in 1993 by the University of Ulster and the United Nations University to undertake research and policy work that is useful to the resolution of ethnic, political and religious conflicts." The site features country guides to Internet resources, an Ethnic Conflict Digest, an information bank that describes sources of information, peace agreements, and thematic guides on topics such as mixed marriages, land mines, immigrants, children and conflict, and other topics.
- Virtual Disaster Library " was developed in November 1999, by PAHO/WHO (Pan American Health Organization / Regional Office of the World Health Organization). It contains 250 publications (25,000 pages) of experiences, ideas and solutions to advance the cause of disaster reduction." From the New Zealand Digital Library, a site with several important collections of digital materials from intergovernmental and international organizations.
