Print in the Library

About Printing in the Libraries

The University Libraries participate in the Campus Printing Initiative (CPI), which is a campus-wide initiative implemented in response to increasing waste/environmental concerns and escalating costs that requires all people printing in campus labs, CPI departments and the library to pay a per-page fee.

How to Print

In the Libraries, users swipe a Buff OneCard at the Print Release Station (PRS). You can then select the job you want to print from the queue and the cost of the job will be displayed. That amount is charged against your quota or balance in your Campus Cash Account when the job is printed.

What it Costs to Print

  • B&W: First side of print $.10/second side of same sheet $0.09

  • $0.50 color (available in Norlin Central Reference, Norlin Science Library, and Norlin N310)

Student Printing Quota

The Campus Printing Initiative Student Quota will be based on the amount billed to a student for the Student Computing Fee each semester. Using 2005-06 Academic Year the Student Computing Fees, the new quota structure would be as follows:

Student Computing Fee (2007-08)

6 or less credit hours per semester $32.80 Fee will receive $4.50 in quota for the Semester
7 or more credit hours per semester $65.60 Fee will receive $9.00 in quota for the Semester

This amount will be added to a cardholder account within 2 business days of the fee being uploaded to the University Bill. Unused quota will carry over from Fall to Spring semester. Unused quota will be cleared from the cardholder's account one week after the Spring commencement.

The quota for free prints is funded proportionately from student fees, based on previous year's funding for printing on campus. Historically, these funds have been derived from fees in the fall and spring only, and none of the summer session fees were so directed.

This situation is under discussion between the administration and student government. We hope that, in the future, there will be a portion of quota funding available in the summer as well as the fall and spring.

Adding Funds to Your Buff OneCard

Buff OneCard holders can add value to their accounts at the Campus Card Office, at a Value Transfer Station (VTS), or by visiting the On-Line Card Office.

Students may also add value with check or cash at any Imaging Services copy center (including the Copy Center in Norlin).

Public Patron Cards

Patron Cards are available for purchase at all Imaging Services campus locations, at either campus VTS machines (1 in Norlin Library and 1 in the Law Library) and at the Campus Card Office in Hallett Hall.

All Patron Cards cost $1.00, additional money may then be added to cover printing. Once purchased, cards can be recharged at any of the locations listed above, or on the web using a credit card at the Online Card Office.

All funds deposited to a Patron Card are non-refundable and non-transferable. If a card is lost or stolen the funds on the card are also lost.
