4 faculty members (elected at large by faculty for two year staggered terms)
4 staff members (elected at large by staff for two year staggered terms)
Role
The Library Advisory Board (LAB) has been established by the Dean of Libraries to gather information, provide assistance, and offer advice to the dean.
The Board also provides a communications forum where suggestions, questions and concerns of Libraries faculty and staff can be brought to the attention of the dean and where issues of concern to the dean may be heard as well. In addition, the Board schedules and sets the agenda for the dean's staff and faculty breakfast meeting twice a year. The scope of issues addressed by the Board includes the separate and/or common concerns of Libraries faculty and staff that extend beyond the department level.
The Board aggressively pursues those issues which it has the power to affect. For those issues which are beyond its control, the Board will follow up with explanations to staff and faculty, and if necessary, suggest other more appropriate forums. For instance, the Board normally refers questions about building issues to the appropriate building proctor, questions about personnel matters to Administrative Services, and questions relating to staff development to the Faculty/Staff Development Committee. The Board actively communicates with Libraries faculty and staff both formally and informally in order to discover and prioritize issues, and to ensure that every voice has a chance to be heard. The Board offers an opportunity to develop leadership skills for the benefit of the board members in the best interest of the University Libraries and the university community.
Officers
The officers of the Library Advisory Board shall be the Chair and the Secretary elected for one year terms by the membership of the Board. In alternating years, the Chair and Secretary shall be elected from faculty and staff so that in years when the Chair is faculty, the Secretary shall be staff and in years when the Chair is staff, the Secretary shall be faculty.
The Chair shall be responsible for establishing the agenda for the LAB meetings with the dean and will also moderate the dean's staff and faculty breakfast meetings. The Chair shall also appoint committees and substitutes as needed.
The Secretary shall take the minutes of the meetings of the Library Advisory Board and shall distribute the minutes to the full Libraries faculty and staff.
Ad Hoc Committees
These committees will be appointed by the Chair to carry out a specific task and will cease to exist when that task is completed.
