Job Description

Role of the Library Advisory Board (from LAB Charter)

  • The Library Advisory Board (LAB) is established by the Dean of the Libraries to gather information, provide assistance, and offer advise to the Dean.
  • The Board also provides a communications forum where suggestions, questions and concerns of Libraries faculty and staff can be brought to the attention of the Dean and where issues of concern to the Dean may be heard as well. In addition, the Board schedules and sets the agenda for the Dean's Meeting twice a year.
  • The scope of the issues addressed by the Board includes the separate and/or common concerns of Libraries faculty and staff that extend beyond the department level.
  • The Board aggressively pursues those issues which it has the power to affect. For those issues which are beyond its control, the Board will follow up with explanations to staff and faculty, and if necessary, suggest other more appropriate forums.
  • The Board actively communicates with Libraries faculty and staff both formally and informally in order to discover and prioritize issues, and to ensure that every voice has a chance to be heard.
  • The Board offers an opportunity to develop leadership skills for the benefit of the Board members in the best interest of the University Libraries and the university community.
