I. Questions submitted to Johann Suggestion Box

a. A letter was submitted regarding the missing Science Department chair and the e-mails that ensued. This prompted discussion as to whether this should be addressed by the LAB or the OCI Committee.

ACTION: The Dean will take this concern to the OCI Committee. Also, the Dean expressed an interest in having a private conversation with the person who submitted the letter.

b. A letter was submitted regarding the installation of a telephone in the Staff Lounge. This request has previously been addressed and there are phones already available for use by anyone wanting to make a private call.

ACTION: The designated phones available for private use are located in the Dean's Conference Room, the Technical Services Conference Room and the Cataloging Conference Room. There are also pay phones and the campus phone in the lobby.

II. The upcoming Dean's Breakfast Meeting was discussed.

ACTION: Audience participation is encouraged after each question and answer. A cordless microphone will be available for follow-up questions and for those without access to a printer, copies of the questions will be distributed at the door.

Barbara McMynn will send out a questionnaire after the meeting requesting feedback.

III. We had a discussion about working with item records in the stacks, having a portable computer such as a laptop that can be utilized in the stacks area to avoid moving the books on trucks to Cataloging for updating. The question came up as to whether we have equipment that would allow us to create item records in the stacks, on-site, etc., such as a laptop powerful enough to accomodate Chinook, a cordless modem and a barcode scanner.

a. We do not now have equipment to allow for this.

b. This is an issue that will be addressed by the Technical Services Division as part of its current test/process analysis.

It was announced that Scott Seaman will not be able to attend the Dean's Meeting. There will be a meeting beforehand with a prepared discussion to allow for the benefit of Scott's input.
