I. ULR

A. Format, regularity?

ACTION: The LAB met with Deborah Fink and Missy Gray on 2/9/98 and the consensus was that the current format and the publication schedule of the ULR do not need adjustment.

B. Ownership of the ULR?

ACTION: The ULR is a Cabinet document, but the Dean consults the LAB for recommendations on modifications to the ULR before taking it to the Cabinet.

II. Spring Dean's Meeting

A. Date, time, structure?

ACTION: The Spring Dean's Meeting has been scheduled for Monday, April 27, 1998 beginning at 8:30 a.m. The Dean will open the Meeting reporting on current "hot" topics concerning the Libraries. Each Cabinet member will also report. The audience will have an opportunity to ask questions after each report.

III. Building Concerns

A. Sign Committee

ACTION: The Sign Committee has been dismissed and thanked for their services. Administrative Services, with John Dziadecki as a consultant, will handle requests and requirements for signs.

B. Question on whether the Reference Information Desk will be moved closer to the East Entrance?

ACTION:

At this time there is no plan to move the Reference Information Desk or the Reference Desk closer to the East Entrance.

IV. Book Exchange

A. Selection of magazine titles for Staff Lounge

ACTION: The magazine titles selected are: Life, Money, People, Rolling Stone, Sports Illustrated, and Time. These titles are coming from the Periodicals Room once the bound volumes are received. The LAB would like to thank Pat Wallace for providing these titles to the Staff Lounge.

B. Maintenance procedures for canceled issues of magazines coming from the Periodicals Room

ACTION: 1. Per.Rm. staff will line-out labels and stamp "canceled" on the covers. 2. Magazines will be delivered to a LAB member (Carol Jacobson has volunteered to be the contact, but this should be a rotating assignment) who will replace the old issues with the new every 3 months. 3. New signs will be posted explaining the procedures and that these issues should NOT be returned to the Periodicals Room.

V. LAB E-mail address

ACTION: The LAB would like to remind everyone that questions or concerns can be sent to our E-mail address: http://ucblibraries.colorado.edu/internal/lab/mailbox.html or liblab@colorado.edu. There is Johann Suggestion Box as well.

VI. Bin

A. Orientation Packets

ACTION: Administrative Services will be organizing their Web Pages as a step toward incorporating them into the new orientation packets.

B. LAB Web Site

ACTION: Minutes from Oct. 1997 - Jan. 1998 have been sent to John Dziadecki for attaching to the Minutes heading on the LAB Web Page.

VII. Johann Suggestion Box

The LAB received an anonymous letter questioning the process involved in preparation for off-site storage. At issue was the memo sent to the Norlin list from Janet Swan Hill dated Feb. 6, 1998 describing the impending move. The writer indicated that he or she felt the procedures described by Swan Hill were made unilaterally and "imposed from on high."

ACTION: Technical Services has had a longstanding request from the Dean to draft a plan ensuring that all items sent to storage will have item records. Representatives from Cataloging, Acquisitions and Serials all provided input to the process. This was a group effort. If the writer (or any other Libraries employee) has specific suggestions or concerns about the Libraries process please contact Bill Garrison or Liz Icenhower in Cataloging. Also, to keep everyone posted on the evolving plan for moving items to storage there is a Web site which is updated every other week:

Libraries Temporary Off-Site Storage Facility: Draft Preliminary Report:
http://spot.colorado.edu/~seaman/off-site.html

VIII. Other

At the Dean's request, LAB members discussed the recent postings to the Norlin list concerning legislative information culminating in a request for a moderated list.

ACTION: Consensus was that Norlin list will continue un-moderated.
