New Business

1. Johann Suggestion Box

1.1 Scrub Brush for Staff Lounge.
1.1.1 The Libraries discourage disposing of food waste in that sink since the drain is not equipped for that. There is no disposal, and the drain empties only to a floor drain in the basement. Hence, no scrub brush will be placed in the Lounge.

1.2 Paper cups in the Staff Lounge.

1.2.1 Since the Libraries want Staff to use "permanent" containers for drinks, no paper drink containers will be placed in the Staff Lounge.

1.3 Recycling Program presentation.

1.3.1 This request has been forwarded to the Faculty/Staff Development Committee.

2. Follow-up on Dean's Meeting

2.1 The questionnaire/evaluation form for the Dean's Meetings will be posted to email for comments from staff and faculty.

2.2 Approximately 80 staff and faculty attended the Meeting on Nov. 9.

2.2.1 The LAB considers this satisfactory.

2.3 Extra chairs

2.3.1 The LAB discussed and will consider purchasing more carriers in order to make it easier to both store and move chairs.

3. Concern about compliance with the State-mandated work week of Sat. 12am to Fri. 12pm

3.1 Scott's reply and clarification of this rule.
3.1.1 The Libraries' policy is to reconcile employees' calendars within the pay period.

3.1.2 The Libraries' pay period is monthly, therefore

3.1.3 Time should be made up/comp time used by the end of the month in which it is taken/earned; that is, within the pay period.

4. Concern about low staffing and service from Systems

4.1 Scott will address this with Systems
4.1.1 Systems has been understaffed since Janelle left.

4.1.2 Staffing is currently normal, service should improve.

4.2 This suggestion, although logical, is not viable because of the attrition rate

4.2.1 This problem exists across the campus since both the university and the state have classification systems that don't allow a pay scale that can compete with the private sector.

4.3 To alleviate confusion when Systems staff arrive in a department, unbeknownst but to the person who generated the request, do hang a sign on the pertinent machine that is out of order.

Old Business

1. The "golden-glow" lighting has been installed in both the Staff Lounge and Circulation.

1.1 The consensus is that it is an improvement.

2. One of the microwaves in the Staff Lounge will be removed and replaced both because it is old and because of concerns regarding its safety.

3. Planters

3.1 The request to Fruehaufs for greenery in the West Porch Planters was denied.
3.2 Carl Stewart has arranged for a donation from a nursery in Longmont.

3.2.1 Two evergreens are forthcoming

3.2.2 Kudos to Carl!

4. Directories and "you-are-here" signs

4.1 the former third-floor kiosk is available for the East Lobby

4.2 discussion of updating the information in it

4.2.1 LAB will ask PR office about the status of their tour on the web

4.2.2 LAB will consider offerering and architecture/planning student a short internship to create a CAD image for the East Lobby kiosk.
