March 19, 2001 Present: Greg Robl, Chair; David Fagerstrom, Helene McHendry, Martha JoSani, Carl Stewart, Sue Williams, Laura Wright.
1) Norlin Banner Investigations continue about reinstalling our "Welcome to Norlin Library" banner across West entrance at the beginning of school. Martha Jo reported that she has been in contact with University Communications Department. They were not aware of a problem with hanging banners on the Norlin Quadrangle, but were interested because they may run up against similar problems as they try to hang banners during orientation periods. Martha Jo will continue to follow up and see if the reasons for the original objections (the letter) can be found. A suggestion was received that perhaps the banner could be on East Entrance, but LAB felt that the West side was more visible and preferable. 2) All Libraries meeting arrangements and LAB setup for 3/22/01 were confirmed. A few questions have been received and these will be distributed to the appropriate AD or the Dean will answer them. 3) LAB FAQ Webmaster has mounted these, in Draft form and LAB reviewed them. Cabinet will be asked to review before making this public. 4) A question was received regarding relocating one's work space when environmental conditions are intolerable. This is a question will be forwarded to Scott for his response and will possibly be included in FAQ. 5) Awards ceremony. Laura is a point person because she is both a member of Campbell Award committee and LAB. Question arose about Gift Certificates. It was agreed that since Crossroads does not offer many stores anymore another location should be chosen. LAB decided to try offering gift certificates to Flatiron Crossing instead. (The last two items are standing LAB agenda items with Dean this year. Jim and/or ADs will address these two issues further in the All-Libraries Meeting:) Separate Staff and Faculty open meetings have been scheduled. 7) Norlin Renaissance The Libraries has submitted a concept for the Norlin retrofit. From here, we hope the CCHE will approve the concept paper and then fund the Program Plan. Once we enter the planning stages, the Dean wants this to be a libraries-wide discussion which he would like to participate in as well instead of directing the discussion. Timing is uncertain when the next stage will begin. There was a question about what role the Colorado Commission of Higher Education (CCHE) plays in projects like this. CU's Capitol Development Committee submits a project to CCHE at the same time as it submits a project to the Legislature's Joint-Budget Committee (JBC) and they recommend as to the advisability of the the project. Respectfully submitted, Carl Stewart |
