March 18, 2002 Present: Dean Jim Williams, Suzanne Larsen, Laura Wright (chair), Helene McHendry, Lorna Kent, Maureen Van Camp, Paul Moeller (secretary) The LAB will host the Spring All-Libraries Meeting with the Libraries Cabinet on April 11 in the Center for British Studies. There will be Refreshments from 8:30-9:00 and the meeting will be from 9:00 to 10:30. Helene McHendry has made arrangements for food and Maureen Van Camp will see about having chairs moved to the Center for British Studies from Special Collections for the event. Please forward any questions for the Cabinet to an LAB member or to the LAB email box (liblab@colorado.edu) by April 8. The Libraries Awards Ceremony is to be held 2:00-4:00 on May 16 in the Earth Sciences Library. LAB is working with Public Information to see that portraits of Campbell and Ellsworth award winners are kept up-to-date. LAB has requested, and Dean Williams has approved, plaques documenting award winners be installed near the portraits. LAB received the following question through the suggestion box: "It seems like a huge blunder was made by not inviting the other 3 campuses to the Sciencedirect Kickoff. Is anything being done to remedy the situation? Any heads rolling?" Dean Williams did, in fact, invite representatives (including the libraries) of all of the campuses to the Kickoff. They had other commitments and chose not to attend. After review of its charge the LAB has decided to remove the section on standing committees and to add the following sentence to the third paragraph under "Role": For instance, the Board normally refers questions about building issues to the appropriate building proctor, questions about personnel matters to Administrative Services, and questions relating to staff development to the Faculty/Staff Development Committee. The charge is available at: <http://ucblibraries.colorado.edu/internal/lab/charge.htm> Next meeting: April 15 LAB welcomes your comments and suggestions. Please feel free to contact any of its members individually, to leave a note in the suggestion box, or to reach us via liblab@colorado.edu.
