Other items for 3/31 were:

The LAB discussed the possible RTD strike. The Dean agreed to send out a message about the RTD strike and its effects on our faculty and staff. Summary of other LAB business from recent meetings: Laura Wright reported on the proposed task force for revision of the LT III test and included discussion on the LT II test. Zan Johns suggesting we coordinate the two. Brice Austin and Pat Morris have agreed to assist Laura in forming a task force for the revision of the LTIII test. It has been suggested that the task force be organized under the LSA and run through the LAB.

In a response to a question about flextime and work hours Scott Seaman provided the following information (flex time is also on the agenda for the Spring All Libraries' Meeting):

The current rules and procedures for classified staff are at http://www.state.co.us/dhr/rules/docs/rules.pdf. Mealtimes and breaks are discussed in chapter 3 in sections P-3-37 and P-3-38. This is on page 13 of the document.

John Culshaw provided the following response to an inquiry about the email situation:

For several weeks in January and February, we faced with serious problems with our Exchange server. Systems staff worked diligently with Microsoft, ITS, and other campus partners to determine the root of the problem. The long-term solution selected was to immediately migrate from the old Exchange server (Glinda) to the new Exchange server (Codex). This was a planned project for the spring semester but the failure of the old Exchange server necessitated an earlier move. As of early March, approximately 50% of users have been moved to the new Exchange server. We hope to complete migrating users by the end of the month.

Many people have probably seen the campus announcements about WebMail. Systems is experimenting with WebMail and in the next couple of weeks we hope to be ready to assist users in moving to WebMail. Our current advice is to wait to make the switch until we provide more information.

The Systems Department does its best to keep users informed of problems with critical services. Unfortunately the Exchange crisis occurred simultaneously with a series of other problems and issues (Chinook login denials, installation of new Chinook hardware, configuration and installation of workstations in E303, interview process for a faculty position and a staff position in Systems, campus requirement for encrypted logins, and more) all of which in a short period of time overwhelmed the capabilities of the Systems staff.

John will provide a further update at the Spring All Libraries' Meeting.

LAB received a question about the Libraries possible participation in a separation incentive program on campus.
Scott noted the program is only applicable for OCCUPIED positions that are being PERMANENTLY eliminated. As the Libraries is not eliminating any OCCUPIED positions the program does not apply to our situation.

LAB welcomes your comments and suggestions. Please feel free to contact any of its members individually, to leave a note in the suggestion box, or to reach us via liblab@colorado.edu.
