| October 20, 2003 Present: Jim Williams, Susan Anthes, Scott Seaman, Paul Moeller, Maureen Van Camp, Suzanne Larsen, Christina Howard, Jane Zumwalt, Lorna Kent The Fall All-Libraries Meeting will take place in N410 on Monday, November 17. Some liquid refreshments will be available at 9:00 and the meeting will begin at 9:30. The Associate Directors are being asked to review briefly the cost cutting that has been done and is planned. Questions for Dean Jim Williams should be addressed to any of the individuals on LAB, put in the suggestion box, or sent to: liblab@colorado.edu. Appropriate use of the Norlin List was raised by Jane Zumwalt. Christina
brought the various university email policies for the group to review.
Scott elaborated on the regulations and what we have done in the past.
Paul was Ralphie's Room on the first floor was discussed because people thought it had moved out in favor of Orientation and orientation should be over. The room was originally requested by the UCSU. They are using it to coordinate future orientations as well as running it like Ralphie's and keeping the name. Scott provided an update on the introduction of a coffee shop to Norlin.
The Libraries is working with the UMC to get a room next to the old
Map Room ready for a coffee shop. Although some remodeling is
yet to be done the LAB received a question on what happened to the Space Planning Committee. It produced a report that was folded into the Strategic Plan. The $100 million recommendation for the renovation of Norlin is being broken into pieces that can be done for under $250,000. These pieces are being prioritized and include 24 hour study area, a 1 desk reference, circ, and ILL, opening up the building, creating reading rooms with outside light, and a concourse from East to West within the building. Jim mentioned that the budget is now finished and we were cut the $1.1
million as expected with only the promised $160,000 back for student
budget. Part of the cut was the Acquisitions cut of $1/2 million. He
complemented LAB will next meet on Nov 3, 10am with the Dean. Respectively submitted, LAB welcomes your comments and suggestions. Please feel free to contact any member individually, to leave a note in the suggestion box (Norlin staff break room [M151] by the sink; labeled--- "Library Advisory Board Johann Suggestion Box"), or reach us via liblab@colorado.edu.
