Present: Jim Williams, Paul Moeller, Jane Zumwalt, Lorna Kent (secretary), Scott Seaman, Christina Howard.

Reminder: The Fall All-Libraries Meeting will take place in N410 on Monday, November 17. Some liquid refreshments will be available at 9:00 and the meeting will begin at 9:30. The Associate Directors are being asked to review briefly the cost cutting that has been done and is planned as a result of University’s budget situation.

Questions for Dean Jim Williams or the Associate Directors should be addressed to any of the individuals on LAB, put in the suggestion box, or sent to: liblab@colorado.edu.

LAB has received the following three questions for the meeting:

How come a patron cannot locate the Human Rights Collection located in Archives on the CU web page?  Examples of items patrons are unable to locate are:  Amnesty International and Council of Soviet Jewry.

In Public Services, what does “limited service” mean?  Several thought service was already limited because of our decrease in hours over fall break.  Some people were serving the public, others were not and everyone including faculty, staff and the public, had a different view of “limited service.”  How about either closed or open so everyone is on the same page.

Do we actually save even $2 per patron we turn away on days that Norlin is open to staff in the mornings but not to patrons?  Seems like we have security and plenty of other staff in the building so why don’t we just open to patrons as well?

These questions will be addressed by the Dean or the Associate Directors at the Fall All Libraries Meeting.  Please send any other questions you may have to LAB.

LAB would like to thank those of you who took the time to reply to our request for opinions on a 2nd Chat email list for the Libraries.  To this point LAB has received 35 responses.  The results of the query and the future of Norlist will be discussed at the Fall All Libraries Meeting.

Concerns have also been raised about internet use.John Culshaw has been asked to review network and email use policies for the All Libraries Meeting.

Arrangements for The Coffee Place (for lack of a better name) in Norlin are being finalized.  The UMC has suggested that the Libraries hold a naming contest for the coffee shop and has offered to provide a $100 coupon for the winning entry. LAB will collect the suggestions and select the winner.  Start working on those names.  Scott will provide more details at the Fall All Libraries Meeting.

Next LAB meeting: November 10, 2003 10 am.

LAB welcomes your comments and suggestions.  Please feel free to contact any member individually, to leave a note in the suggestion box (Norlin staff break room [M151] by the sink; labeled --- "Library Advisory Board Johann Suggestion Box"), or reach us via liblab@colorado.edu.
