Minutes: March 15, 2004
Attending: Jim Williams, Helene McHendry (chair), Karen Campbell, Christopher Cronin, Deborah Fink, Christina Howard, Zhijia Shen, Grace Xu, Jane Zumwalt
The spring all-staff meeting is scheduled for Tuesday 6 April at 10a. We will convene in the east lobby for a “surprise,” and then continue to meet in N410, with light refreshments in celebration of the surprise. The dean will present the new Libraries logo and web page redesign, and the cabinet will address questions from staff. Helene will send out the call for questions this week.
An LAB subcommittee (Helene, Karen, and Grace) are organizing a Greek volunteer clean-up of public areas in the Libraries. They will compile a list of potential projects (including branches) and hope to get started this semester and continue on an ongoing basis. Priorities are the Norlin entrances. This will be coordinated with Facilities Management. Many issues must be considered, including safety, supplies, supervision, etc.
A suggestion was received to reinstate the use of “floating” positions. The dean encouraged us to form a subcommittee to look at promoting a “task-oriented. need-based team culture,” built on the kinds of experiences and successes that have occurred in Engineering and Special Collections, as examples. Our next step will be to meet with the person who submitted the suggestion.
In addition, Helene will confer with Scott about staff lounge vending machine choices.
