Minutes: May 17, 2004
Library Advisory Board minutes, 17 May 2004 meeting
Attending:
Helene McHendry, Jane Zumwalt, Chris Cronin, Deborah Fink, Karen Campbell, Jim Williams.
1. Service recognition program:
Helene McHendry spoke with the Social Functions Committee to organize matters. They will contact LAB members should they need help setting up. Helene is gathering information for the introductions of retirees. Agendas and invitations have gone out.
2. LT II test report:
Helene McHendry announced that the Library Technician II/III Testing Task Force will be “testing the test” with volunteer LT IIIs and General Professionals on June 2nd. In the meantime, the task force has started revising the LT III oral test.
3. Norlin cleanup report:
Helene McHendry met with the director of Greek Affairs last week. After speaking with the chapters, the director has proposed that major cleanup projects be done twice a year (at the beginning of football season in the fall, and during Greek Week in the spring). In addition to this, some chapters have expressed interest in adopting certain areas of the Libraries as their own for regular maintenance. The director feels confident that she will get sufficient interest from the chapters to make this an ongoing program. The director will contact all of the house presidents and house advisors to get an idea of how many people will be involved so the Libraries can plan on projects, security, resources, etc. In return, the chapters would like public acknowledgement; Deborah Fink has agreed to organize the publicity. The Libraries will provide supplies. At this time, it is expected that the chapters will start with Norlin, and branch libraries will be included over time.
4. Facilities’ access issues:
Helene McHendry and Jane Zumwalt will be meeting on Thursday with Scott Seaman to discuss various access issues for some of the facilities in Norlin. In particular, they will address access to the women’s washroom near Cataloging. They will also discuss possible meeting space alternatives to in Norlin to N410, which has its own access issues. Jane Zumwalt will be the liaison to a proposed task force.
5. LAB membership changes:
Grace Xu will be leaving the Libraries June 1st. Helene will contact the Faculty Elections Committee about filling that vacant position on LAB. LAB will consider ways to advertise, including putting in ULR an outline of what LAB discusses each month, with a link to the full minutes.
