Meeting with the Dean

Attending: Helene McHendry (chair), Karen Campbell, Christopher Cronin, Deborah Fink, Janet Swan Hill, James Williams, Jane Zumwalt

Helene announced that she will step down as chair following the 11 Oct meeting due to an upcoming surgery. Jane agreed to chair from that point through December, when we will have new members and the chair will be filled by a faculty member.

We discussed the All-Libraries Meeting scheduled for Wed 15 Sept at 2-4 p in CBIS. The day and time were selected on the basis of Dean and Associate Director availability and the CBIS schedule. Helene will put out a call for volunteers to help committee members set up at 1p and clean up at 4p. We reviewed the agenda, which includes time to enjoy the special gifts and refreshments to be provided at the outset. Jim will address recent milestones in the Libraries and kick off the internal “Year of the University Libraries.” Cabinet members will answer questions already submitted to the committee and questions from the floor.

Facilities Task Force Report

Having studied the report of the TF outlining meeting space availability and accessibility, the committee concluded that a new large meeting space is an urgent need. The committee recommends that the Faculty/Staff Development Committee and PS and TS in particular immediately seek alternative accessible venues for presentations and meetings. Other groups are encouraged to do so as needed. The committee considered a variety of other ideas, which will be looked into for the long term.

LT Testing Task Force

Helene reported that the new LT II test has been submitted, tested, and approved. The state will make it available as an option for other institutions hiring LT IIs. The TF is now rewriting the LT III oral exam, converting multiple choice questions to short essays. They have completed 12 of the 16 questions from which 8-10 can be selected for a test. The III screening test will be reworked next. All three are expected to be completed by the end of the year.

Greek Library Clean Up

Helene is hoping to make contact with the Greek liaison when the semester has settled down.

Submitted by Deborah Fink, Faculty Recorder for September.
