Minutes: January 28, 2009
Present: Jim Williams, Holley Long, Lisa Gould, Karen Campbell, Meri Willett. Absent: Matt Brower, Sue Williams
1. There is a new refrigerator in the staff lounge. It does not have an ice maker because it would have been too expensive to run the water line. We will get some ice cube trays for it. This new refrigerator is for Libraries staff to use, and a laminated sign will be posted on it. Custodial staff and student employees are welcome to continue to use the other refrigerator.
2. The spring All-Libraries Meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, March 18 from 10:30 to 12:30 in CBIS. This is before spring break. In addition, LAB will host two meetings in February at which Jim will discuss the rest of this year’s budget and the 09/10 budget. Jim will discuss the same topics at both meetings. Offering a meeting at two different times allows as many people as possible to attend one of them.
3. Should the Libraries have a Green Plan? Jim would like us to consider this. The University of Utah has an excellent plan so he suggested that LAB members look at their website before the All-Libraries Meeting then show some highlights of it at the meeting. The Libraries can then decide if we want to pursue a Green Plan. We are already committed to all our events being zero waste. Laughing Goat, who we’ve contracted with to run the coffee shop in the commons, is free trade and green, which lends support to any arguments we want to make about developing a Green Plan. If there is widespread support, we’ll form a task force and see if someone from the university’s Environmental Center would participate. We would be looking at what we’ve already done and what we can do at this point that would not cost us any money.
