University Libraries 2010 Strategic Plan: Goals & Objectives (2010may06) docx

East Vestibule Replacement
Hope to see schedule soon – no dates now.  Existing vestibule to be removed – exterior and interior – and replaced with an energy efficient aluminum storefront.  Revolving doors to be replaced with standard leaf doors.

West Entrance Improvements
The benches facing the quad are temporary.  During the month of June, we expect Facilities to work on removing some concrete, extending the Quad grass about 10 ft east, plant shrubs, etc.  Backless benches will be swapped in for those currently in place.

Norlin Signage
New signage system should start appearing in the building over the next month or so.  Thanks to Danielle (with help from several others on our Signage Task Force), the final message schedule was submitted to Facilities last week.  Signs are currently being fabricated.  Most signs will go up in the renovated areas (Research Services, Commons) as well as new directional signage.  This has been a long frustrating project and we appreciate your patience.

Norlin Camera Project
Facilities is putting finishing touches on the building camera project.  We have installed cameras on all of the building exits as well as an outdoor camera on the plaza that monitors the east and south/café entrances.  When complete, Security will be able to monitor all of these locations from their office.

Commons Construction
During the week of May 24, Facilities will be installing an additional water heater in the Commons to provide more hot water for the Laughing Goat.

Sundial Plaza Updates
Facilities has recently over seeded the grassy area around the fountain in hopes of establishing a thick stand of grass.  The rope was removed for graduation but then put back in place.  Hopefully it will only be there for a few more weeks and then foot traffic will be allowed.

Norlin Planning Team
The Team is nearing completion of its work.  During spring semester, we met with the Norlin Stacks Management Task Force to discuss some issues.  The Team should complete its work by the end of the month and complete a preliminary review with Cabinet of the revised Norlin Renaissance Plan next month.  Joe Bilotta, our space consultant, will then present the revised plan at an all libraries meeting over the summer (date still TBD).

Fleming Update
At the last all libraries meeting, we announced that the Libraries would get the law library portion of the Fleming Building potentially for special collections and archives.  Well, the on-again, off-again nature of Fleming seems to continue.  It seems Fleming will continue to be occupied as surge space for the time being – and that future building occupants will be required to pay for building improvements before moving in.  This makes the space less desirable.  The future is now uncertain.  We have had some very preliminary discussions with the CU Museum about potential future space partnerships.

From Lucy
We do not have a good record this year for students' completion of the required discrimination and harassment training.  Supervisors of student employees need to monitor this more carefully in the future.  If you have questions about compliance in your department or how to advise students to complete this training, please check with Lucy.

Open Enrollment
Ends next week.  The instructions are clear online – but if you have questions, feel free to consult with Lucy or Dylan.

From Planning and Promotions
Andrew and Ranee have been redistributing display cases and art around Norlin and will be bringing in new shows this summer.  Andrew has created nifty floor-by-floor maps of galleries and art 'niches that will be posted on the website.

From Libraries IT
Welcome to Rice Majors – new Faculty Director for LIT!!

Holley Long and Thea Lindquist were awarded a campus Innovative Seed Grant to complete the digitization of the WWI pamphlets collection and develop a student-centered learning tool.

And Holley and Alison Hicks were also a warded a Colorado Humanities Grant to digitize volumes from Special Collection's fairy tales collection, hold a public lecture series, and provide k-12 programming related to the collection.

Did you know the Libraries has a wheelchair for use by visitors?  It is available in the Dean’s Office.  The wheelchair was generously donated by Kris McCusker.  Thank you!
