Internships and Practica in the UCB Libraries
The University of Colorado-Boulder Libraries invite graduate students in library and information science programs to apply for internships or practica. Internships with the UCB Libraries offer the freedom and flexibility to create a practical professional experience that fits students' library interests and career goals.
Internship Application Form: Word / PDF
Internships at UCB Libraries aim to provide a diverse overview of academic librarianship while building on students' individual skill sets and theoretical understanding. Interns at UCB Libraries will meet the following general objectives:
- gain practical experience by working on special projects
- perform professional responsibilities in a tenure-track academic library setting
- observe the unique challenges of the research library environment
- develop critical awareness of professionalism in librarianship
Applicants should be current students or recent graduates from a graduate program in library and information science. We will consider other qualified applicants on a case-by-case basis. Time, project, communication, and evaluation requirements are typically dictated by the intern's institution and it is the intern's responsibility to share these requirements with his or her UCB Libraries supervisor prior to the start of the internship. Additionally, interns and their UCB supervisors will determine scheduling, projects, and goals before the internship begins.
The Libraries will work with the graduate programs to insure academic credit is given when applicable. Currently, all internships and practica are unpaid.
Applying for an internship or practicum
Students are encouraged to contact potential internship supervisors at the library to find out about oppertunities. Faculty librarians have their profiles available online, and a complete faculty and staff directory is available.
Please fill out the Internship Application Form (Word / PDF) and return it to Dylan Wiersma (Dylan.Wiersma@colorado.edu).
We recommend that students begin the application process the semester before they would like to begin the internship.
