We are located at approximately 40° 0' 29" N, 105° 15' 55" W, T1N, R70W, Section 31, SE 1/4 in the Benson Earth Sciences building. Enter the Earth Sciences Library on the first floor on the southwest side. Take the elevator or stairs to the lower level.

from the North (e.g., Longmont or Fort Collins):
Take the Diagonal Highway (Highway 119) to 28th Street. Turn left on 28th Street (this continues to be Highway 119) to Colorado Ave. Turn right on Colorado. Just past Folsom Ave, there is a public parking lot on Colorado Ave. on the left (south).

Parking is available at meters in a lot to the east of Benson Earth Sciences. The meters take dollar coins, quarters, and credit cards. The Library does not have change. The parking lot on the West side of Benson is available for public parking after 5pm. A paid parking slip is required from the vending machine in the lot. It accepts credit cards. Parking is also available in the Euclid Parking Garage, adjacent to the UMC.

  • Denver International Airport (DIA) is the closest major airport to Boulder. The DIA web site provides maps and directions as well as information on flights, parking, security, and ground transportation.
  • The DIA web site also provides links to the major car rental companies operating out of DIA.
  • The SuperShuttle is a scheduled airport shuttle service running between DIA and many of the major Boulder hotels. Door-to-door service is also available. The number for Boulder reservations is 303-227-0000.
  • The Regional Transportation District (RTD) offers a skyRide bus service between DIA and Boulder. The buses stop downtown as well as at the University.

 

 

 

 

Circulation Policy

 

Most maps can be checked out from the library. Many of our CDs may also be checked out. Atlases, reference materials, and maps published before 1950, rare or fragile maps, or those encapsulated between mylar do not circulate. Most non-circulating items may be photocopied or scanned. Circulation of Map Library materials is at the discretion of Map Library staff.

Maps and CDs circulate for 14 days to patrons with valid library photo ID. Please complete check-outs 15 minutes prior to closing.

Please return maps to the Map Library, during our business hours. Hand the map to an employee or place in the return box in front of the reference desk. You may request a return receipt if you wish.

Notes about Borrowing Map Library Materials

Maps are delicate items. Please handle them with care. If you need to hang the map up for a presentation, please ask for a hanging kit. Do not put pins in the maps. Please do not take our maps on a trip out in the field. We will give you a protective tube or envelope when you check out a map; please return the map in it. If we give you the map rolled in a tube, please do not fold it.

Laptops are available for a two hour loan period on a first come, first served basis upstairs at the Earth Sciences desk.

The Map Library offers a quiet area to study. There are several large tables and many individual carrels.

 

A Group Study Room is upstairs in the Earth Sciences Library. It is available on a first come, first served basis.
