CU's History Department, Students, and University Libraries Donate to the University of New Orleans Library
Thanks to donations from History faculty, graduate students,
and the undergraduate History Club, a total of about 1650 books
were sent to the University of New Orleans recently. 15 faculty
members, staff, graduate students, and undergraduates packed the
books into approximately 61 boxes provided by the University Libraries,
and the boxes were be sent out from our mail room. Bob Jackson,
the head of the mail room, helped ensure that every box reached
its destination.
It brings great pleasure to all of us to know that these books
will go into use in the UNO library, which we hope will be spared
from future disasters like the one that followed hurricane Katrina.
Photographers and/or reporters from 4 papers were at the packing party, as well as our CU campus photographer.
To everyone in the History Department at CU Boulder who contributed your books and muscles, many thanks. To the Libraries for your practical and moral support, more thanks. To the History Department for its generous assistance with shipping costs, another batch of thanks!
With all best wishes from our department to the History Department
and Earl P. Long Library at UNO,
Marjorie McIntosh

Discovering Colorado: the Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps Collection receives grant to digitize collection
Katie Lage, Holley Long, and Chris Cronin, working closely with Liz Bishoff, have received a grant to catalog and digitize a large portion of the Map Library's Sanborn Fire Insurance maps collection. The project, Discovering Colorado: the Sanborn Fire Insurance Maps Collection, will digitize 253 individual maps on 2,086 sheets representing 47 cities in 37 Colorado counties between 1883 and 1922. The maps will be viewable through the Libraries Digital Asset Library (DIAL) and searchable through DIAL, Chinook, the Collaborative Digitization Program's (CDP) Heritage West database, OCLC, and Open Archives Initiative (OAI) service providers such as OAISTER. The grant also provides funding to train approximately 100 librarians from across Colorado in the use of the digital Sanborn maps as well as maps in general through collaboration with Colorado Library Consortium (CLiC).
Funding has been received through a Colorado State Library LSTA grant for $37,500. The Friends of the Library has generously contributed $4,000 that will allow the Libraries to include all of the cities in Boulder and Jefferson counties in this project. With the addition of a commitment of matching funds from the University Libraries, this grant totals approximately $70,000. The timeline for the grant is July 1, 2006 – June 30, 2007.
