Mission
Research & Instruction meets the information needs
of the campus community and visitors by providing general and specialized research
services and collections in the social sciences and humanities; collaborating with teaching faculty in the
provision of information literacy instruction to students; and orienting individuals to the University Libraries.

Major Changes

- Current newspapers are located by the north windows.
- Current journals are located directly behind the Reference Desk.
- How to retrieve articles during construction.
- Microfilm equipment is located by the north windows.
- Once construction is completed on the second floor, the combined Research & Instruction Department and Periodicals Collection will be moved to and permanently housed on Norlin's second floor in the space formerly occupied by the Periodicals Room and the major open Study Area. This central research center will offer references services for the arts, humanities, sciences and social sciences.
- The space formerly occupied by Research & Instruction will be converted into the Norlin Learning Commons -- open 24 hours a day -- complete with state-of-the-art computers, individual and group study areas, instruction space, video production space and a coffee shop.
