(Ege) Otto Ege Collection
Description
The Otto Ege collection, Fifty Original Leaves from Medieval Manuscripts, Western Europe, XII–XVI Century, contains 45 individual disbound vellum leaves, each mounted in a folder with descriptive notes. Five of the leaves, noted below as “lacking,” were not present when the collection was acquired by UC–B. Ege (1888–1951) was Dean of the Cleveland Institute of Art and Lecturer on History of the Book at the School of Library Science, Western Reserve University. The collection is no. 32 of 40 numbered sets.

The boxed set is cataloged under call number ND2950 E38 1900 in the Libraries online Chinook catalog.
Arrangement
Leaves are in chronological order as perceived by Ege and retain the numbers assigned to them by Ege (e.g. Ege 14).

(Hayes) James Hayes Collection of Manuscripts and Printed Leaves
Description
The collection contains approximately 50 manuscript leaves and fragments from the 12th to the 17th centuries. The collection also contains later handwritten letters and documents on parchment. The Manuscripts and Printed Leaves is just one portion of the Hayes Collection which also includes books, serials, ephemera, and artifacts dealing with calligraphy and the history of printing and letterforms.

Each leaf has been assigned a Hayes number (i.e. Hayes MS 1). Leaves are not in strict chronological order.

171 items, approximately 50 of which are vellum leaves and fragments.

Provenance
The collection was assembled by James Hayes over a number of years. It was purchased by the University of Colorado at Boulder Libraries in 1994 with help from the Colorado Calligrapher's Guild.
(MS) Miscellaneous Medieval Manuscripts
Description
Contains over 45 examples of disbound leaves, individual gatherings, and complete manuscript texts dating from the 9th through the 15th centuries.

Each leaf, gathering, or book has been assigned a manuscript number (i.e. MS 80). These are in accession order rather than chronological order.

Description

(Thom) S. Harrison Thomson Collection
Description
The Thomson manuscript collection contains 44 medieval manuscript leave fragments dating from the 11th through the 15th centuries. Most are encapsulated and matted. Their identifications are based on Thomson's own notes.

Provenance
Samuel Harrison Thomson (1895-1975) was Professor of Medieval History at the University of Colorado at Boulder, succeeding James Field Willard in 1936. He was the author of Latin Book Hands of the Later Middle Ages, 1100-1500, and works on John Wyclyf, John Hus, and Robert Grosseteste. Thomson was founder and editor of Medievalia et Humanistica and the Journal of Central European Affairs. These manuscripts were originally part of his private collection and were subsequently purchased from Bernard Rosenthal of San Francisco between 1973 and 1982.
